My 8 Favorite Utah Portrait Session Locations

Uncategorized

Utah is such a beautiful state. I love the variety of backdrops that Utah has to offer! You can easily find gorgeous mountain views, city shops, unique beaches, lively gardens, etc. Whatever your vision is for your portrait session (this includes family sessions, engagement sessions, anniversary sessions, and more), I am sure we can find the location here in Utah County and Salt Lake County. Whether you are a fellow photographer looking for session locations, or a client looking for inspiration, this list of my 10 favorite Utah portrait session locations is for you.

Midway

One of the major benefits of Midway, UT, is that it is so easy to get to. There is no hiking required to find a stunning backdrop here. You can just park the car and walk into the field. Second, it is beautiful all year round. There is no off-season for Midway. The scenic Wasatch Mountains create the perfect background for portraits year-round. In the summer, there is that long grass that we all love! During the fall, everything is a beautiful golden color, and during the golden hour, this is really enhanced, making the glow absolutely stunning. Midway has a very romantic feel about it, making it the perfect location for engagement and couple sessions.

Tibble Fork

Tibble Fork Reservoir is a gorgeous freshwater lake located up American Fork Canyon. While it is one of my favorite locations, it also has its drawbacks. There is a small fee to enter American Fork Canyon, and it is a very popular location. During the summer, it is always PACKED with people going paddleboarding, kayaking, or just swimming in the reservoir. It is the perfect location for winter, however, because it has a lot of evergreen trees in addition to the mountainous views.

Did you know that Tibble Fork also has an upper level? This lesser-known location has a gorgeous view of the mountain without the reservoir if you’re not really wanting water in the photos. This spot has desert vibes. Another benefit of this location is that dogs are allowed. For clients looking for an adventurous, pet-friendly location, this is the place.

Squaw Peak

Squaw Peak is a gorgeous location for the spring. In May, it is filled with the prettiest yellow wildflowers. I love to do sessions in open, flowered fields. These locations are especially good for large extended family photo sessions.

Red Butte Garden

Red Butte Garden is the State Arboretum of Utah. It is an absolutely stunning botanical garden located on 100 acres on the edge of the University of Utah campus. A reservation and fee are required to hold a portrait session here, but the variety of gorgeous floral backgrounds are worth it.

Downtown Salt Lake City

For clients looking for a big-city vibe, downtown Salt Lake City is the place to go. There are endless unique backdrops and several rooftop options that offer stunning views of the city. No matter what kind of urban environment you want for your city photos, Salt Lake has it!

Tunnel Springs

Tunnel Springs Park in North Salt Lake, Utah, is a beautiful open field with gorgeous views of the valley. This is another example of a great location for family portraits. We can do a wide variety of poses, all with a beautiful backdrop. And its location is perfect for those coming from Utah Valley or Cache Valley for photos!

Jordan Pines

Jordan Pines is located just 10 miles up Big Cottonwood Canyon. It is full of beautiful open fields and pine tree gatherings for a wide variety of backdrop options.  This location is great for winter holiday cards and spring portrait sessions. You really can’t go wrong with a gorgeous Utah canyon, in my opinion!

In-Home

Sometimes, the best location option is the comfort of your own home. For newborn portraits or if you’re working with unpredictable weather, an in-home session is a perfect way to keep everyone warm and comfortable.
