My Favorite Provo Canyon Views

Enagagements

Isn’t Utah such a beauty?

I have had the privilege of taking photos in Northern Utah for many years, and there are some views that I will just never get tired of. If you haven’t traveled to this area, it’s an outdoor photographer’s dream. There are countless parks, trails, and overlooks that make for ideal family photo locations. The mountains that surround this area cannot be beaten!

Even if you are a Utah resident, it’s normal to not understand the ins and outs of outdoor locations in the canyons. There really are so many options, and each of them has pros and cons. If you’re not familiar with this area, it can be tricky to know how to prepare for a visit to different trails and what to expect. A good photographer can help you with that!

I could create a list a mile long about all the best photo spots in this part of the state, but I really want to focus on Provo Canyon specifically. This blog post will give you some ideas for future family picture or engagement locations, but also reminds you to reach out to your photographer and rely on their expertise when it comes to these kinds of questions.

Let’s get started by chatting about a few of my favorite locations to get the best views Provo Canyon has to offer.

My Favorite Provo Canyon Views:

Canyon Glen Park

Upper Falls Park

Squaw Peak Trail

Rock Canyon Overlook

South Fork Park

Sundance

Aspen Grove

Big Springs Park

Now that I’ve shared some of my prized photo locations, it’s important to point out a few things to keep in mind as you’re browsing for the perfect spot.

Type of session

One of the first things that will help you identify where you should take your photos is what kind of photos you’ll be taking! Location plays a big part in the overall vibe and aesthetic of your images. Your photographer can help you find a place that feels cohesive with the vision you have for your photos, whether they’re engagements, bridals, family, or extended family sessions.

Accessibility

Your specific family situation and the mobility of each of your family members play a huge part in narrowing down locations that are ideal for you. A number of the locations above have stunning views from the moment you step out of the parking lot. Others require a bit more walking. Consider what will be the easiest for your family and go from there.

Time of Year

In the busyness of planning, don’t forget that the views in each of these locations change dramatically with each season. The photos featured in this post were taken during the spring, so by September everything will look completely different. Because Utah gets a lot of snow, some spots may be completely inaccessible during the winter months. Be prepared for whatever the weather may throw at you and try to be flexible with your plans.

As with everything you do in nature, remember to be mindful of the things you pack with you. Don’t leave anything behind! Some trails are regularly preserved, so it’s always a good idea to stay on marked trails and follow signage to keep these areas beautiful for everyone to use. Happy shooting!

The best way to do that if to find out who YOU are and what type of moments YOU treasure the most.

Wanna meet me? I love my cute family, the pop of my Made by Mary necklace over my heather grey sweatshirt, and eating ice cream for every occasion - Tillamook Mudslide is my favorite!
